The question, "Why is Lionel Richie sitting at Home?" might be a tough one to answer. Despite his enormous success in music, he has been plagued by depression, even after selling more than 100 million records. His stint as a judge on American Idol is undoubtedly a welcome role, but he also has a lot of personal challenges to overcome.

One reason may be his kids. He has three children, two of whom are close to the Kardashians, Paris Jackson and Good Charlotte. Together, they have 13 million followers on Instagram. While his children may be an unremarkable handful, they've still managed to make a name for themselves.

The star has also adopted a daughter named Nicole Richie. He has said his adoption of Nicole was "a godsend" for the family. When she was a small girl, she desperately needed a shot. He first met Nicole at a Prince concert, where he couldn't take his eyes off her. Nicole was two years old and playing the tambourine next to him.

After a long, successful career as a musician, Richie is now earning $200 million. He has been a singer for over 30 years, and his career started with the Commodores; and later formed a friendship with Michael Jackson. Richie's songs have won him four Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year. In addition, he was the first person to receive an RIAA Diamond album.

Richie's mansion has many luxurious features, and he has been known to spend a significant portion of his money on it. It is an impressive mansion that boasts 28 bedrooms and stretches over 17,000 square feet. It also includes a studio and a pool house.

The star's acclaimed career is far from over. He recently accepted the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, an honor he shared with Carla Hayden. In addition, his friends sang tribute songs to him, including Gloria Estefan, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, and Yolanda Adams.

Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, Richie was an aspiring athlete before he achieved fame. He spent his childhood playing tennis and later earned a tennis scholarship at Tuskegee Institute. He also graduated from the university with a degree in economics. Though he almost chose the priesthood, he decided to pursue a career in music. In 1968, he joined the funk/soul group Commodores.

As a child, Richie's first band wasn't the Commodores but the Mystics. He was shy, but his bandmates persuaded him to switch to lead singer. His father, not surprisingly, wasn't too happy about Richie's decision to quit school.
